Our Dentists

Dr. Robert V. Melanson, DDS

General Dentist

Dr. Melanson was born and raised in Dartmouth. After completing a BSc in Biology at Dalhousie University in 1975, he went on to attend the Faculty of Dentistry there. He graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1980 and went into private practice in Dartmouth.

In 1982, he joined with his classmate and friend Dr. Goodine to found Alderney Dental Group in the historic Stern’s Building in downtown Dartmouth. Dr. Sunita Sharma joined the Group in 2007.

Dr. Melanson and his team make every effort to build positive and long lasting relationships with patients. His care philosophy is that patients should be fully aware of their treatment options and that dental care should be provided in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. He pursues excellence in dentistry and is particularly interested in aesthetic dentistry, implant dentistry, and CAD/CAM computer generated restorations. He works closely with a network of dental specialists and lab technicians to provide thoughtful treatment plans for his patients. Dr. Melanson is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, the Nova Scotia Dental Association, the Atlantic Implant Study Club, and the Academy of General Dentists.

As a lifelong resident of Dartmouth, Dr. Melanson has a deep appreciation for local history. He enjoys reading and travelling, and is particularly fond of dining out and fly fishing. He and his wife Patty live in Dartmouth and they have three children.
Dr. Chris Petropolis, DDS

General Dentist

Dr. Chris Petropolis was born in Halifax and graduated from Dalhousie University in 1986 where, in addition to his academic life, he was very active in intramural sports. Upon graduation, he began working in the downtown area of Halifax and Dartmouth. He is passionate about caring for his patients and providing the quality of care they deserve. He continues to grow in his profession through regular courses.

Outside of the office, he enjoys many sports. He was an avid squash player, ranked in the top few in Nova Scotia for many years, and competed nationally. He coached the Nova Scotia Canada Games Squash team in 2011, when three of his children were team athletes. These days, he plays with the Nova Scotia Monarchs Baseball team in the summer and competes in the annual Roy Hobbs World Series Baseball Tournament each year in Florida. Dr. Petropolis is married and is the proud father of 4 adult children.
Dr. W. Bradley Goodine, DDS

General Dentist

Dr. Goodine grew up in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick and now lives in Halifax. He attended Dalhousie University in 1974 and completed two years of a B.Sc. before being accepted into the Faculty of Dentistry in 1976. Upon acceptance, he was awarded the Dalhousie Dentistry Entry Scholarship. He graduated from Dentistry in 1980. During his four years at Dalhousie, he was part of many intramural sports teams, served for two years as the President of the Dalhousie Dentistry Students Society, and won an award for Oral Diagnosis in his fourth year.

After graduation, Dr. Goodine went into practice in Halifax as an Associate. Two years later, he moved his practice to Dartmouth to join forces with Dr. Melanson, where they formed Alderney Dental Group. They’ve been at their present location ever since. Dartmouth was the perfect location for a practice. The small-town friendly feeling suited both dentists’ personalities.

Dr. Goodine is particularly interested in orthodontics. He has taken continuing education courses in orthodontics, laser therapy and rotary endodontics.

An avid sports fan, Dr. Goodine spends his spare time golfing, curling and cycling. He has two grown children. His daughter is in the medical field, and his son is in business. He says that for him, dentistry was the right choice because it lets him be his own boss, work with his hands and build close relationships with an interesting and diverse group of people.
Dr. Sunita Sharma, DDS

Dr. JC Kaiser, DDS

General Dentist

Dr J. C. Kaiser is from Cape Breton, where he grew up in the beautiful town of Baddeck. Upon completing his BSc at Dalhousie University, he travelled to Australia to complete his dentistry degree at Griffith University, Queensland. During his time in dental school, he participated in numerous volunteer dental outreach programs & was president of the Griffith’s dentistry student association.

As a dentist who enjoys every aspect of the profession, Dr. Kaiser also takes every opportunity to engage in continuing education and loves getting to know his patients and their families. Dr Kaiser is a member of the Halifax County Dental Society, Nova Scotia Dental Association and Canadian Dental Association.

Outside of dentistry, he enjoys cycling, hockey, golfing and spending time with his wife, Mari, and their young son, Bowen.
